About This Class

Join designer Michael Flarup on a journey of how to create the single most important visual aspect of your product: the app icon. A beautiful, identifiable and memorable app icon can have a huge impact on the popularity and success of an app. But how exactly does one make a good app icon? What does that even mean?

This class will give you ways to talk about and judge iconography as well as hands-on experience of creating that all important visual asset. We’ll cover the entire process from researching, sketching and rendering. We'll discuss tools, rendering and reflect on the 4 core aspects of app icon design. You can follow along with your own class projects, and watch as Michael completes a project of his own.

Who is this class for?

This class is for everyone interested in becoming a better designer. Icon design is a great primer on design in general and the content you’ll learn can in many ways be applied to other areas of design. you’ll need a basic understanding of how design tools like Photoshop work.

Materials

You’ll need Photoshop or a similar design tool to participate in this class. Michael will be using his free template. The template makes the job easier, but isn’t required to participate and get something out of the class.

You’ll walk out with a solid foundation of icon design theory and the process and tools involved in delivering successful app icons.
